FOSRUF Fosfomycin Tromethamine oral powder
FOSRUF is a broad-spectrum antibiotic formulation containing Fosfomycin Tromethamine, specially developed for the treatment of acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by susceptible bacterial strains.

Manufactured by Moruf Life Sciences, FOSRUF offers a single-dose oral therapy that provides rapid and effective relief from symptoms such as painful urination, burning sensation, and urinary frequency. Its unique mechanism of action targets and eliminates bacteria responsible for urinary infections while maintaining an excellent safety and tolerability profile.

FOSRUF is a preferred choice among healthcare professionals for its convenience, compliance-friendly dosing, and high clinical efficacy, especially in women suffering from uncomplicated UTIs.

Mechanism of Action

Fosfomycin Tromethamine is a derivative of phosphonic acid that acts as a bactericidal antibiotic. It works by inhibiting the bacterial enzyme enolpyruvyl transferase, an essential catalyst in the first step of cell wall synthesis. This inhibition prevents the formation of peptidoglycan, an essential component of bacterial cell walls, leading to cell lysis and bacterial death.

Fosfomycin demonstrates excellent activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative uropathogens, including Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Due to its unique mode of action, it is effective even against multi-drug resistant bacterial strains, including ESBL-producing organisms.

After oral administration, Fosfomycin Tromethamine is rapidly absorbed and excreted unchanged in the urine, achieving high urinary concentrations that persist for up to 48 hours, ensuring prolonged antibacterial activity with just one dose.
